It pains her to hear him this way. It seizes her heart in a way she's never felt, with a kind of fear she's never known. Where is he, right now? She can see him sitting on the steps in front of her, forlorn, listless. Empty. Alfred isn't there.
It's her fault. It's her fault she didn't tell him, that she didn't warn him. Whether or not she ever expected to see anyone from her world ever again, she should have at least told Alfred about him by now... But she didn't. She was too afraid. And now her cowardice was reaping the consequences. She hurt someone she loved, and now she would pay for it.
She'd never had anyone to love to hurt like this before. How is she supposed to fix it?
Her pace slows as she nears him, cautiously reaching out to touch his shoulder to try and embrace him.
"What on earth... Alfred, no." She admonishes ever so softly, like she always does, with a gentle, pleading lilt to her own trembling voice. "Let me explain, please..."
