It's heartbreaking that he can't trust his father, but it means the world to know that he has that kind of faith in her. So much of his world wouldn't accept this from him, and in the world she comes from, it's hard to imagine even the average girl being this supportive of her boyfriend's journey "to the other side" without significant hangups.
